Hand Hygiene PQI Project
This PQI project evaluates adherence to hand hygiene by the observation method. The observer will be educated on CDC and WHO hand hygiene guidelines and observe and record 200 opportunities for hand hygiene for a given healthcare provider.
Reducing the risk of health care associated-infections is national patient safety goal #7 as reported by the Joint Commission. Following proper hand hygiene techniques has been shown to reduce the rate of pathogen transmission in the healthcare setting. Compliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hand hygiene guidelines should reduce transmission of pathogens by staff to patients and reduce the risk of health care associated-infections.
