Lumpectomy Plus Radiotherapy Linked To Reduced Risk For Breast Cancer-Related Death Compared With Either Lumpectomy Or Mastectomy Alone In Women With DCIS, Research Indicates.

Medscape (8/10, Mulcahy, Subscription Publication) reported that research indicates “lumpectomy plus radiotherapy is associated with a statistically significant reduced risk for breast cancer–related death compared with either lumpectomy or mastectomy alone in women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).” However, “the clinical benefit is small, say” the researchers. The findings were published in JAMA Network Open.
