Study Examines if Access to FFDM Priors May Affect DBT Interpretation

Aunt Minnie (3/26, Yee) reports that a study published online March 13 in the journal Radiology asks if “having access to full-field digital mammography (FFDM) priors improve radiologists’ interpretation of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) images.” Researchers found that “the availability of prior” full-field digital mammography (FFDM) and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) “images are each largely independent contributing factors in reducing recall recommendations during mammographic interpretation.” Should priors be “unavailable, DBT images alone are as good as – if not better than – the combination of current and prior FFDM images in terms of improving a radiologist’s sensitivity,” the study found.
