SBI Member Lisa Schneider, MD, a breast imaging specialist from Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, discusses the inconsistencies within the recent USPSTF recommendations and the ACS guidelines. She also discusses when women should begin having annual mammograms during an interview with KARE in Minneapolis, MN.
During a recent interview SBI Member Donna Plecha, MD, Director of Breast Imaging at University Hospitals urged women to begin screening at age 40, despite the USPSTF's recommendations, "I disagree. I really think that many studies have shown that mammography saves lives in women between the ages of 40 and 49. My fear is that death rates from breast cancer will go up in that age group if they don't get screened."
