The Wendell Scott Research Award is presented to the most outstanding abstract submitted by a breast imaging fellow to the Symposium. The recipient of the 2026 Wendell Scott Research Award is Matt Hoyer, MD, for his abstract, "Cost Analysis of Percutaneous Cryoablation versus Breast Conserving Surgery for the Treatment of Breast Cancer: Implication for Cost Efficacy-based Treatment Strategy."
Dr. Hoyer is a breast imaging fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
The Gerald D. Dodd Jr., Research Award is presented to the most outstanding abstract submitted by a medical student or resident to the Symposium. The recipient of the 2026 Gerald D. Dodd Jr., Research Award is Anas Al-Zubaidi, MD, for his abstract, "Depression, Anxiety, and Mammography Screening Adherence: A Three-Year Analysis of the National Health Interview Survey."
Dr. Al-Zubaidi is a third‑year diagnostic radiology resident at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and serves as an advocate and mentor through the Texas Radiological Society. He earned his medical degree from the University of Baghdad in Iraq and completed a clinical research fellowship at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, followed by a transitional year at Baptist Health – University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and specialized training in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging at Johns Hopkins. His research focuses on barriers to breast cancer screening, healthcare disparities, and cancer‑related mortality, and was recently recognized by the American Association for Cancer Research and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. He is currently applying for breast imaging fellowship for the academic year 2027-2028.
The International Abstract Award is presented to the most outstanding international abstract submitted to the Symposium. The recipient of the 2026 International Abstract Award is Jirarat Jirarayapong, MD for her abstract, "Standalone AI for Detecting Breast Cancers Missed on Screening Mammography: Diagnostic Performance and Imaging-Pathologic Characteristics."
Dr. Jirarayapong is a breast radiologist at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the Thai Red Cross Society and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She received her medical degree from Chulalongkorn University and completed her diagnostic radiology residency and breast imaging fellowship at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, where she is currently an attending radiologist and faculty member. She previously served as a visiting research fellow in breast imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where she contributed to research on multiparametric breast MRI and imaging biomarkers. Her academic interests center on the application of advanced breast imaging techniques—including breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, radiomics, and artificial intelligence—to enhance breast cancer detection and diagnostic performance. A key area of her work is the evaluation of AI-assisted mammography for breast cancer screening, particularly in women with dense breasts, which are prevalent in Thai and other Asian populations. Her research examines the clinical performance and potential impact of AI tools developed and validated in Asia-Pacific settings. Dr. Jirarayapong is committed to advancing patient-centered care, education, and equitable access to high-quality breast imaging.
SBI Educational Abstract Award Winners
The SBI Educational Abstract Awards are presented to the two highest-scoring educational abstracts submitted to the Symposium. Read more about the recipients of the 2026 Educational Abstract Awards below!
Julia Kim, MD: "In the Shadows of Contrast: False Negatives in Contrast-Enhanced Mammography"
Dr. Kim is a fourth-year radiology resident at the University of Virginia. She will be completing her fellowship in breast imaging at UVA in 2027.
Tan P. Nguyen, MD: "Evaluation of Contrast-Enhanced Mammography-Guided Biopsy: Indication, Feasibility, Image Quality and Radiologic-Pathologic Correlation"
Dr. Nguyen is a PGY-4 diagnostic radiology resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard-affiliated academic teaching hospital in Boston, MA. He is actively engaged in research through the Brigham Clinician–Scientist Research Pathway with a focus on breast interventions, including breast cryoablation and contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM)-guided biopsies. His academic works include investigations in bench-side modeling of cryoablation isotherms in collaboration with industry partners and radiologic-pathologic correlations of axillary extranodal extension in patients with breast cancer, with presentations at national meetings and contributions to peer-reviewed publications. He plans to pursue fellowship training in breast imaging and is committed to the academic advancement of evidence-based, patient-centered breast care through clinical excellence and translational research.
