SBI Webinar - Missed Breast Cancers at Mammography, CEM, and Beyond
e-Learning
Breast imaging radiologists play a crucial role in the early detection of breast cancer, but there are a number of factors that can make detection of breast cancer challenging. In fact, studies have shown that up to 35% of interval and screen-detected cancers could be considered missed. Understanding the various factors that contribute to missed breast cancers and the most common imaging appearances of missed breast cancers can help improve radiologist performance and patient outcomes. This webinar will review factors that lead to missed breast cancer and describe and illustrate some of the most common missed breast cancers using modalities like mammography, ultrasound and MRI. It will also explore how contrast enhanced mammography can help decrease missed breast cancers while also demonstrating its limitations.
Learning Objectives
- Review the most common reasons for missed breast cancers on mammography, ultrasound and MRI.
- Discuss possible solutions for increasing cancer detection rate in daily practice.
- Evaluate the role of contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) in reducing missed breast cancers by understanding its diagnostic advantages over conventional mammography.
